It’s a packed weekend with something for everyone. We’re closing in fast on the summer. Or, depending on how you look at it, we’re already in the middle of the summer (judging by the weather) and the calendar’s a month behind.
My goal is still to have these posted earlier in the week. I had intended to have this up, at the latest, by Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning, but it just wasn’t meant to be.

Low Man’s Joe/Hounds of Jezebel, BFE Rock Club, 11538 Jones Rd, show 8:30pm. Some of you may have been wondering what happened to Low Man’s Joe. Well, wonder no more; Low Man’s Joe is back in action with a concert in northwest Houston, taking the stage at 10:30pm. This doubles as a celebration of lead singer Bret Gyrich’s birthday. Hounds of Jezebel will take the stage at 11:30pm. Filling out the schedule will be Eficin, Serpent’s Son, and 12 Gauge Awakening. 12-M05-4

Super Eight, 1824 Spring Street, reception Sat 5:30-9pm. Free admission, complimentary drinks and food from Karbach Brewery, Beavers, Dragon Bowl, Dripping Springs Vodka, and tunes from DJ SUN. .38 Special/Blackberry Smoke/Folk Family Revival, Sam Houston Race Park, 7575 N. Sam Houston Parkway W., 8:30pm, $10-$15. In order: .38 Special helped define arena rock in the 1980s, and are based in Jacksonville, Florida; Blackberry Smoke is a country/southern rock act based in Atlanta, Georgia; and Folk Family Revival is an Americana band based in Magnolia (Houston area). 12-W20-4
Dave Matthews Band/Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, 2005 Lake Robbins Drive (The Woodlands), 7pm, $40.50-$75. The former is a rock/country/pop band active who recently celebrated their 20th anniversary; the latter is best known for their hit “Home” featured in NFL commercials during the summer and fall of 2011. 12-W20-5

Scoot-In Outdoor Screening, Sequicentennial Park, 500 Preston, 8:30pm. Aurora Picture Show presents a series of short films about alternative forms of transportation. The food truck Good Dog Hot Dog will be on site, as well as Saint Arnold Brewery.
