The saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun. So it’s no big surprise that here we are, in 2011, and it’s already time for Via Colori again.
This post is going to be a bit light, because I’ve written recaps for both the 2010 and 2009 events. For those new to the concept, parts of two downtown streets (Bagby and Allen Parkway/Lamar) are closed off and transformed into a street art festival where artists will paint on marked sections of the road surface using pastels.
The event benefits the Center for Hearing and Speech. Admission is free, though keep in mind this is fundraiser for CHS. Per the event FAQ: “There will be a variety of delicious food and beverage options available for sale throughout the festival, including beer and wine for those 21 years of age. No outside food or beverages are allowed. Revenue from on-site food and beverage sales helps the festival to remain an admission-free event.”
Alongside the visual art, there will also be live music. Since the event is still well over a month away, the lineup has not yet been finalized but will be posted on the official website. Previous years’ events have featured a larger stage on Bagby, and a smaller stage on Lamar, and have included such well-known local acts as Runaway Sun, Buxton, and The Tontons.
This is looking to be a great time for everyone, so save the date (Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20) and bring the whole family!
