NPPL (National Pub Poker League) hosts Texas Hold’em poker tournaments in bars, pubs, taverns, etc. throughout the greater Houston area. Nightclub Cardio: Doors open 6pm, class runs 6:30-7:30. $10 at door; monthly pass available $25 (advance registration no longer available). Rich’s, 2401 San Jacinto. The most exciting physical fitness concept I have ever come across! Take a standard aerobics class out of the gym, drop it into a nightclub complete with DJ and light show, and you pretty much have the concept behind Nightclub Cardio. Architecture Center Houston (ArCH) Walking Tours. All tours start at 10am on Saturday, are held weather permitting, and are $20 ($10 for AIA members only, except as noted) with credit cards accepted for advance ticket purchases only, with reservations being recommended. Since this is Houston, these tours are not held during the summer due to the heat. The tours currently include the following (with tour start locations):
- Buffalo Bayou Walking Tour, 301 Milam. This tour showcases Houston’s architectural history from 1836 to the present. (For this tour, the $10 rate also applies to Bayou Buddies members.) Z-15
- Montrose Walking Tour, 1520 Sul Ross. Explore the spectacular architecture of the Montrose area including the University of St. Thomas, Rothko Chapel, and the Menil Collection. Z-20
- Museum District Walking Tour, 5101 Montrose. This tour showcases the great architecture of the Museum District, including work by Mies van der Rohe, Gunnar Birkert, and Isamu Noguchi. Z-21
- Medical Center Walking Tour, John P McGovern Commons Building (lobby), 6550 Bertner Ave. This tour showcases Houston’s architectural history from 1836 to the present. Z-22
- Towers and Trees, City Hall (base of the reflecting pool), 900 Bagby. A look at Discovery Green and the changing dynamics of Downtown Houston. Z-23
