2011-05-23/29 Weekly LOVIEE

Tuesday 05-24

Screening of Bold Native, Sedition Books, 901 Richmond Ave., 7:30pm, $5 (suggested donation). “Charlie Cranehill, an animal liberator wanted by the United States government for domestic terrorism, emerges from the underground to coordinate a nationwide action as his estranged CEO father tries to find him before the FBI does. The film simultaneously follows a young woman who works for an animal welfare organization fighting within the system to establish more humane treatment of farmed animals…. the film also illuminates the danger of corporate interests influencing the law in a post-9/11 world.” 11-W21-1

2011-05-09/06-19 Monthly LOVIEE

While a bit later than I’d like it to be, I was able to come up with a good seven events covering the next month or so. I realize I’m a bit thin on descriptions and links for some of these; I may go back and add some descriptions, and possibly even other events, if/when time permits.

I am temporarily suspending the weekly LOVIEEs until I have the new computer (it should be arriving in time for a weekly LOVIEE to be posted for 05-23/29 or two weeks from now).

Saturday 05-14

Mercury Baroque Season Finale, Wortham Center, Cullen Theater, 8pm, $?. Mercury Baroque finishes the season with a performance of Mozart’s Requiem, a mysterious and controversial piece (some musicologists believe it was not completed prior to Mozart’s death), Mendelssohn’s String Symphony (which he composed at the age of 12), and Mozart’s Serenata Notturna. For early birds there’s a free pre-concert lecture starting at 7:15pm in the Wortham Center’s Green Room. 11-M05-1
